Book Summary

Little Miss Blackie is a book that addresses many of the obstacles that face today’s youth. Journey with this spider as she faces teasing, a family illness and the joys and pains of growing up! From self-esteem, discovering one’s talent to the rarely discussed color complex Little Miss Blackie attempts to convey the message that we are all unique and special. This book hopes to be an avenue in which parents, teachers and children can begin to explore their own feelings and
thoughts on these various topics.

About the Author

Alexis C. Graves is currently a teacher with the Prince George’s County Public Schools system. She has taught both General and Special Education for 7 years. She spent her childhood in Pittsburgh, PA . A graduate of Seton Hill University, she received a Bachelor of Social Work and a B.A. in Sociology. She later went on and earned her M.A. in Special Education. Alexis currently resides in Maryland with her dog Maximus. "Little Miss Blackie" is Ms. Graves’ first book.

About the Illustrator

Dawn Miller is an artist and instructor living in Georgia. Her work varies from logos and illustrations to murals and theater sets. She has taught art and drama to students from age two to adults. She has a love for learning as well and has had the privilege of meeting many wonderful people in the process to learn life lessons from.
